May 7, 2026 - Spotify Launches Verification Badge For Human Artists
- Spotify has launched a verification badge to help users identify human-made music from AI-generated music. Artists who receive the verification badge are understood to show consistent listener activity and engagement, compliance with Spotify’s policies and signal a human artist behind the account, according to Spotify. The company said that it would also look for off-platform presence such as concert dates and social media accounts. The verification badge comes after publisher Sony Music requested the removal of 135,000 songs by fraudsters impersonating its artists on streaming services, according to Silicon Republic.
- AI music generation platform Suno has 2 million paid subscribers as of February 2026, according to company CEO Mikey Shulman. Shulman also said that Suno has surpassed $300 million in annual recurring revenue. Shulman said that the company’s growth reflects a consumer class tired of algorithmically curated, churned out content, and that Suno is offering an alternative. Suno lets everyone actively participate in music culture creation, bringing to life the music that’s inside millions of people, Shulman added.
