Sep 10, 2025 - High School Sports Participation Rebounds From COVID-era Drop
- A new wave of student athletes has emerged to replace the losses caused by the COVID-19 pandemic earlier this decade, according to the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS). A record 8.2 million students played high school sports nationwide during the 2024-25 school year. The 8,266,244 total represents an increase of more than 200,000 from the previous school year's record number of 8,062,302. Participation has risen by more than 650,000 over the previous three school years, according to the annual NFHS High School Athletics Participation Survey.
- A federal appeals court has struck down the Federal Trade Commission’s “click-to-cancel” rule that would have required many businesses to make it as easy for consumers to cancel subscriptions and memberships as it was to sign up for them. Click-to-cancel has been praised by consumer-rights groups but many fitness industry stakeholders argued that the rule would have exposed the fitness industry to unnecessary and costly operational burdens, according to Athlete Tech News.
